Art has always interested me - in my youth, I earned scholarships so I could extend my art education at the local art college by taking several years of Saturday classes. After class, I enjoyed spending hours at the library combing through the fine arts section, discovering and studying artists and art movements. I learned what intrigues me most about art is the story behind the artwork and how the life of the artist influenced the art. I went on to further my studies at the very same college and graduated with a BFA. In the decade after graduating, I explored other fields including screen printing and sewing before circling back to painting. Currently, my focus is on portraiture. Whether it's a commissioned portrait of a loved one or a public figure, I appreciate learning about the people that I'm painting and the stories they have to tell.
When I'm not painting, I enjoy cloud watching. Clouds have a magic to them by forming and morphing into infinite combinations of shapes and colors. They remind me about the concept of impermanence - that everything around us is constantly changing. When I look up to the skies, I take comfort in knowing that there is so much possibility in the unknown. This philosophy grounds me and brings me peace.
